You’re going to Copenhagen, for a vacation or for longer? That’s great! Now, I assume you have a smartphone, because really, who doesn’t these days? Therefore, I’ve put together some helpful and fun apps that will help you get around, find things to do, and make your trip a bit more smooth and easy!
TRAVEL AND TRANSPORTATION
SIGHTSEEING AND GUIDES
iSpot CopenhagenThe official tourist guide app, developed by VisitCopenhagen. If you’re a tourist in Copenhagen and only want to download a single app for your trip, this is it. It holds information about transportation, the Copenhagen Card, etc. and of course a comprehensive list of things to do and see. This includes sights, restaurants and bars, but also more general information, e.g. about the Royal Family. Everything is nicely sorted by category, so it’s super easy to find what you’re looking for. You can also add things to your personal guide for quicker access.
Favorite feature: A calendar that lists things and events happening in Copenhagen on any given day. |

Copenhagen City WalksThis app has a list of self-guided walks with information about the places you visit. Unfortunately, the basic version only shows you the attractions, for a guided map and turn-by-turn directions you need to buy the upgrade. But the other functionalities, like marking sights and places as visited and the possibility to add your own photos are great.
Favorite feature: The diversity of the tours offered. Classic sightseeing, shopping, antiques hunting, art galleries - you’ll find something for everyone. Free (upgrade needed for turn-by-turn directions; USD 4,99) - iTunes - Android |
|
CPH EssentialsThis is a nice starting point for first-timers to Copenhagen, as it has a short “best of” selection of the most famous places, including attractions, restaurants, shopping, bars and nightlife (around 7-10 per category).
Favorite feature: You can add places to your itinerary and schedule them for the morning, afternoon or night. Free (upgrade includes more locations, navigation & offline map) - iTunes |
FOOD AND DRINK
Danish SmørrebrødYou didn’t think you’d be able to escape smørrebrød, now, did you?! It’s a necessity, and it’s awesome! This app shows you the best places to enjoy one of the famous open-faced sandwiches, and it even has some recipes for making your own!
Favorite feature: The alphabetic guide “Smørrebrød A-Å”, that allows you to read up on the most important ingredients and types of smørrebrød. Free - iTunes |
|
Meatpacking District TourThe meatpacking district (“kødbyen”) is the latest trend in Copenhagen nightlife. This app guides you through the area, which stretches from the central station towards the South. It mainly focuses on bars and restaurants, but also has some art place etc. The upgrade does not have more places in it.
Favorite feature: That this is actually a guided tour - all information can also be played as an audio-guide so you can look up from your phone while walking! Free (upgrade includes turn-by-turn directions, DKK 19) - iTunes |
OTHER/ SPECIAL INTERESTS
Royal CPHAre you one of those people who loves to read the yellow press and keep up to speed on the latest gossip about the royals? Then this app is great for you! Or are you just really interested in the history of the places you visit? Then you might like this app as well. Finally, you might just want to see something different to the standard sights? The Royal in Copenhagen app is not much more than a list of sights, but they all have something to do with the royal family, so expect castles, stables, gardens and the like. Long and informative descriptions are included.
Favorite feature: That this app shows you places you probably wouldn’t have seen otherwise! Free - iTunes |

CPH Design GuideCopenhagen, Denmark, and this app are great for design lovers. Danish design and architecture enjoy a great reputation all around the world, and this app has picked out a best-of for you to see in Copenhagen. It offers a great selection of design stores, places worth seeing, architectural highlights, etc. and gives some more insights. A must for any design lover coming to Copenhagen!
Favorite feature: The great mix of the selection - you definitely won’t get bored! Free - iTunes |

I Bike CPHEverybody knows Copenhagen is “bike central”. And everybody knows how annoying it can be to get around on a bike if you don’t know the best shortcuts. Don’t despair, because I Bike CPH is here to help! It shows you the quickest bike routes through the city, however, it doesn’t have turn-by-turn directions (yet?).
Favorite feature: Very detailed and accurate maps of Copenhagen. |
What are your favorite apps? Which ones are missing from the list? Share your tips here, I’d love to hear them!

Not sure I’d enjoy the smørrebrød app, but other apps have indeed been fantastic especially rejseplanen
I would recommend Movia app tho. It tells you when the bus arrive based on your gps location (which bus stop you are standing) and can track the bus as well. It also tells you if there’s a change of route, strike etc. I use it daily

That’s clever, thanks for the tip - that would’ve spared me the wait at Valby today only to find out that 4A currently doesn’t go there… :)

Great links. Despite having been here for eight years, I didn’t have them all. Thanks.

You’re welcome :) some are a bit touristy but also very helpful if you’re relatively new in CPH, or want to get to know new places!
