The Copenhagen Tales is almost two and a half years old - and it has come a long way. Over the months and years, I’ve found my style and voice, and I’ve made this blog into a space that I’m really proud of.
And I love being a blogger! I’ve already said multiple times that my blog is and always will be a hobby for me - I couldn’t (and wouldn’t want to) make a living off of it - although I greatly admire all those who do! But I love blogging and being a blogger. This blog has been a much needed outlet for my creativity and all those things I just wanted to share.
So here are five reasons why I love blogging!
It lets me meet great people
A lot of you reach out to me through Facebook, Twitter, or via email, to ask for recommendations for an upcoming trip to Copenhagen, tips about moving to Denmark, with general questions about expat life, and a hundred other things. And I love that - some of the best friendships I’ve made here in Denmark have come through the blog. I also get to attend cool events where I meet other bloggers and people that share my interests, like the FoodieHub community.
It motivates me to try new things and keep exploring
Having the blog has changed the way I think about things - I get a lot of ideas about cool things to do because they would make a great blog post. That’s not to say that I wouldn’t do anything otherwise, but thinking about what you, my readers, would like to read about has been a great driver and inspired me to go out, try new things, and keep exploring this beautiful city. My “museum monthly” posts are a prime example of that.
It teaches me new skills
To be a blogger, it’s not enough to just be good at expressing yourself. To create engaging and inspiring content, us bloggers have to be multi-talented: we have to be interesting, funny, and witty writers, produce great visual content like photos or graphics, and also set up and maintain the whole machinery behind our websites. Learning and improving my photography has been one of my favorite “side effects” of being a blogger, but I’ve also enjoyed diving head-first into the engine room behind my blog, learning about hosting, plugins, SEO, and the like. I’m far from being an expert in either, but you know what they say - you never stop learning!
It gives me fantastic experiences
Apart from meeting great and inspiring people, the blog has also allowed me to explore some fantastic opportunities and make great experiences that I otherwise probably wouldn’t have had. Two very different examples would be getting invited to an absolutely mind-blowing gourmet dinner at The Restaurant by Kroun, and paddling through the canals of Christianshavn with ONAK Canoes.
It lets me share and express myself
If you’ve ever met me in person, you will have noticed that I talk a lot. Like, a LOT. I just can’t help it. When something great has happened, I have an idea, or discovered something new, I simply have to share - it practically bubbles out of me! My family knows this well (actually, my sisters are just like me - our poor parents, their ears have been bleeding for 28 years!), as do my colleagues, friends, and of course my boyfriend. And the blog is a perfect outlet for sharing my experiences, thoughts, visions, and dreams. Put that together with my first point about getting in touch with so many great people, and you’ve got a really inspiring mix. It’s great to know that what I’m sharing reaches someone, helps people, maybe inspires them, and creates a dialogue between me and you. I love that!
