Today’s the day – Christmas is finally here!
Although this year I’ve had a very hard time getting into the Christmas spirit. I’m blaming a combination of the Danish weather and the very employee-unfriendly way that Christmas falls onto the weekend this year. Although I did take yesterday off to get everything in order, it feels like we’re all just stumbling head first into Christmas Eve, somehow totally unprepared.
We’ve had our tree for almost a week now, and I’ve baked Christmas cookies, listened to plenty of Spotify’s holiday playlists, and worn my Christmas sweaters and socks, but somehow it still feels like mid December at best.
I’ve had most of my presents ready for a couple of weeks now, so all that remained to do yesterday was some last minute ideas and finishing touches. We even had time to squeeze in a quick lunch at Bang & Jensen, though we were careful to avoid the inner city and its last minute shoppers.
Today, we’ll be heading to the boyfriend’s family for a traditional Danish Christmas Eve, complete with flæskesteg, duck, risalamande, and dancing around the Christmas tree. Our car is fully packed for the trip down to Germany on Christmas Day, and then there’s a couple of days of family time there, before we head back north for New Year’s in Copenhagen.
It’ll likely be rather quiet on the blog “between the years”, so we can all enjoy some quality time with our loved ones.
To all of you who celebrate it, I wish a wonderful Christmas! I hope it’s merry, bright, and filled with laughter.
