You know you have good friends when they show up for dinner invitations with dessert.
You know you have great friends when they show up for dinner invitations with amazing pasteis de nata, which you didn’t even know you could get anywhere in Copenhagen, from a new place that’s not only close to your work, but also your yoga studio. *heart eyes emoji*
In summary, my friends are the best.
I love discovering new places, especially of the small, family-run variety. And Impronta in Hellerup is one of them. It’s located halfway between my work and my yoga studio, so it’s the perfect stop for a little snack before my Wednesday aerial yoga class – I have to restrict myself to one pastel de nata, though, it’s not wise to fill up before hanging upside down!
Impronta is a family business, and the small store is buzzing with life from the open kitchen behind the little counter. It’s a specialty grocery store and café and take-away place all in one, and the offer includes Argentinian specialties, homemade empanadas, fresh pasta, coffee, wine, and, of course, pasteis de nata.
I have very little self-control, so of course I sampled the empanadas – I went with a veggie one filled with sweet corn – and treated myself to two pasteis de nata and an espresso afterwards. What was that about filling up before aerial yoga practice…?
I’ll definitely be back to sample more of the empanadas, since they were delicious. The dough was sturdy enough so it didn’t fall apart in your hand, but not too thick, and the dough-to-filling ratio was excellent. I’m a sucker for sweet corn, so of course I loved every bite! They recommend the beef empanada as their house favorite, but there’s chicken, mozzarella and ham, as well as a new vegan version with spinach available as well.
But of course, I was partial to dessert.
I had already tried the little pastries, courtesy of my friends, so I knew I was in for a treat. I love pasteis de nata, and these were really, really great: crunchy, flaky pastry and a sweet-but-not-too-sweet filling with just the right amount of vanilla, made even better when topped with a dash of cinnamon. *more heart eye emojis*
I can already tell this will be a much-frequented spot for grabbing a coffee and pastry, picking up a selection of empanadas for a quick dinner at home, or treating friends and family to lovely pasteis de nata!
