I seem to have a thing for breakfast recently.
But who could blame me, really – it is the most important meal of the day!
On weekdays, I’m lucky in that my work canteen offers breakfast. So I usually go for some cereal or two slices of rye bread with cheese or jam – nothing too fancy.
But on the weekends, it’s a different story!
Sleeping in, then heading out for a slow, lazy breakfast (or rather, brunch) in one of the many excellent cafes in Copenhagen. A particular favorite is Souls in Østerbro, which is a fully plant-based cafe with breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus.
If the weather is nice, you can sit outside on Melchiors Plads in the heart of Østerbro – an excellent spot to watch the hustle and bustle of the city as it springs to life on a weekend morning: parents with their strollers or chauffeuring their kids in cargo bikes, elderly people doing their shopping, and groups of students nursing their hangovers from the night before.
If you’re a coffee drinker, you have a choice between different plant milks, including almond, oat, and coconut. I had never had a coconut latte before, but I was completely blown away – especially the iced version just tasted like a tropical beach vacation!
I opted for a breakfast combo, which was amazing and consisted of a myriad of different elements.
There was fresh fruit salad, cashew yogurt with a berry compote and muesli, cucumber and carrot sticks with hummus and the most delicious green pea dip, fresh baguette, a little slice of rye bread with smashed avocado, and two scrumptious pancakes.
My friend had an açai bowl – which was served in what could easily have been a mid-sized fish bowl and was topped with muesli, seasonal berries, and coconut flakes.
I’m telling you, that green pea dip…
And those pancakes! I’ll have to get a whole stack of those next time!
As you can probably tell, we didn’t leave hungry!
If you’re looking for a healthy, but still indulgent and scrumptious brunch or breakfast in Copenhagen, I strongly suggest you give Souls a try. Both breakfast and brunch are available on all days of the week.
Have you been to Souls? Or do you have other breakfast favorites? I’d love to hear about them!
