I have to admit, I haven’t been to a music festival in a shockingly long time. I’ve been to concerts, yes, but the last time I did the whole festival experience, including camping, no showers, being drunk pretty much 24/7… that was almost a decade ago. And so I decided to only get a one-day ticket to Roskilde (another reason is that I don’t have any real vacation days due to this being my first year of working in Denmark and their system is so messed up… but I’ll save that rant for another time!). That day was yesterday. In terms of weather, I lucked out, because it had been a bit cloudy and cold the days before, but when I left the house in the morning, I could already tell it was going to be a hot day. And it was!
All in all, it was a great experience. I saw some bands, including Manu Chao (who rocked) and the Arctic Monkeys (who weren’t quite as good, but I didn’t see the complete show). I drank a Pina Colada out of a whole pineapple, and I did my best to try and eat as much of the festival food as possible.
Basically, whenever I walked past a food stand, I went and got whatever they were selling, including garlic bread (awesome), potato wedges (okay), pizza (edible), jambalaya (bit bland) with coleslaw (delicious), veggie burrito (yum), a couple of bites of flæskestegsandwich (soooo good), pasta (boring) and breakfast this morning consisting of a nutella sandwich (always a good choice) and fruit (still wondering how anything healthy got in the mix after all!). I didn’t come with high hopes of spending a relaxing night, but it was even worse than expected. Not only the heat in the tent, but mainly the insane parties in the camping area that lasted through the entire night (non-stop) with the bass pounding so loud my earplugs were made useless, made it impossible to catch any sleep at all. So on the train home this morning, all I could think was, after not even 24 full hours on the festival, I’m already desperately craving my shower and bed - I’m getting too old for this! But hey, it was only one day, and I’d definitely do it again!
Now I only have to make it through work tomorrow and then we’re off for a couple of days to the summer house… Needless to say, we’re going to have a healthy week up there!
Here are some photos I took at the festival:

Ha! Me too. I can’t imagine what it was like to be in Roskilde Festival with all the things going. A friend of mine who’s been there a couple of times said that there were a lot of people who went there just for to get drunk 24/7 and not for the music.
After watching DR’s “most disgusting camps and experiences” in Roskilde (including two young girls who just had shower and hang their towels outside the tent only to find the towels were covered in faeces later - somebody used them to wipe their asses), I give up ;)
Or maybe I’m just into a different kind of “festival” altogether. I like the Copenhagen Jazz Festival a lot better. Maybe I am getting old!

Thank God I avoided that camp! Yeah, I guess there will always be people who take it just that one step too far, I really enjoyed the overall atmosphere, it just felt like one big summer party. But I wouldn’t have made it an entire week, I guess I’m too old for that, too! :) But I can definitely recommend the overall experience!
