Despite being German and living in Denmark, I am not a big fan of beer (I know, shocker!) - a cold brewski can be really nice on a warm summer night or while watching a game of football or soccer at a pub. But generally, there aren’t many occasions where I would choose beer over a cocktail or a nice glass of wine. Lucky for me, Copenhagen has a ton of both great cocktail bars (see my top ten here) and a bunch of great wine bars to boot!
As far as wine bars go, Beau Marché is as adorable as they come. It’s located in the city center, in one of my favorite parts of Copenhagen - the area between Kongens Nytorv, Strøget, and Gothersgade, which is full of old houses, hidden back yards, and lovely little cafés and restaurants.
Beau Marché is a café, interior design shop, and general nugget of Frenchness in the middle of Denmark’s capital. The storefront on Østergade is filled with lovely furniture, decorations, and French delicacies, but the real gem is hidden away in a little house in the back of the courtyard: a little café and wine bar.
This place is basically oozing with Frenchness - the walls are lined with dark shelves, filled with wine bottles, glasses, and souvenirs. The main part of the room is filled by a long, wooden table, and there are smaller tables in the corners. Chairs and other furniture are a cute mix of vintage and flea market finds, nothing fits together, but it all works to form a cozy atmosphere.
The store and café are driven by a Danish brother-and-sister duo, who have lived in France and wanted to bring a bit of that French feeling back home with them.
The menu is exclusively French (surprise!), and the selection of wines by the glass is not huge, but absolutely sufficient. A lot of their wines are from the Ardeche region, such as the rosé pictured below, which was delightfully fresh and crisp. The glasses cost around DKK 60, which is extremely fair for Copenhagen!
You can also eat at the café - they have both breakfast and a lunch/ dinner menu, which lists French classics such as Corque Monsieur/ Madame, Salade de Chèvre, and cheese and charcuterie plates. If you just want some nibbles with your wine, their warm bread with olive oil and salt is delicious (and plenty)!
This café is an absolute gem, which we recommend you visit soon! I have yet to try their breakfast, which I’m sure will be delicious as well.
Beau Marché is located on Ny Østergade 32.
